Good Journalism Makes Better Neighbors
Journalists should be that close friend who cheers your successes, cries over your losses, and pushes you to be better than you ever thought possible. We're all family, after all. At two different newspapers, we did this and were named the best in the country for our size and received the Robert McGruder Award for Diversity Leadership, the most prestigious national award for all newspapers working on this important effort to connect our communities through trusted local news and information. Across almost 45 years in journalism, I worked to build newsrooms that earn trust, strengthen communities and help people be better neighbors. During much of 2026, I've focused on family as my two aging parents battled health problems together. How they lived -- and died -- inspire me to keep serving.
